A Threshold Experience for Young Adults — Presbytery of Plains and Peaks
Friends in the Presbytery of Plains and Peaks,
You are doing an amazing, Spirit-driven, new thing! The Thrive Pilot Program, a Threshold Experience for Young Adults, is getting ready to launch on August 17. We have 5 participants, whom we are calling Thrivers. They are a diverse bunch, from different parts of the country, ranging in age from 18–27, from various religious backgrounds, and possessing a multitude of gifts, skills, and vocational interests. As they prepare for this experience in the coming days, please hold them in your prayers.
Their names are: Hope, Ayden, Quinn, Gianni, and Marissa.
WHAT WILL THE THRIVERS DO?
Over their 18-week experience, they will:
● Live in community at Highlands Camp and Conference Center
● Explore and innovate with Christian practices of baptism, communion, service, discernment, kenosis, and commissioning
● Develop daily practices and a “rule of life” that will be life-giving for them as they cross the threshold into the next chapter of their lives
● Learn to listen to God, the world, and their authentic selves
● Intern with Highlands, gaining practical skills and work experience
We are so grateful for the many churches, individuals, and especially the Highlands board and staff that have turned this wild dream into a reality in just a few months! So many folks have stepped forward with funding, supplies, books, and
offers to share your gifts and skills with this program.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
● Funding — We are still in need of additional funding for the pilot program. We took on an additional participant and have encountered some unplanned costs, so our budget is slightly more than anticipated. Anything you can give will help. If you feel called to donate, or if your church can offer some resources, please send a check made out to
Presbytery of Plains and Peaks with "Thrive"; in the memo to 531 S College Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
● Books — We are in need of some specific books to stock the library of the Thrivers' cabin. If you have a copy of any of the titles on the linked list that you'd be willing to give or loan to us, please bring or send them to First Presbyterian Church, 531 S College Ave, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Please note if you would like them returned at the end of the program and let us know how we can get it back to you.
● Furniture — We are in need of a few small dressers/chest of drawers for the Thrivers to store their belongings. We also need a clean refrigerator in good working order. If you have one you are getting rid of, please contact Amy Morgan at amy.thrivethreshold@gmail.com.
● Shared Meals — We'd love for churches to share a meal with our participants. They need to eat, and we'd love for you to hear about them and their experience with the program. We will come to you! Please contact Amy at the email address above if you're interested in scheduling a meal date. Thursday lunches or dinners are ideal, but other
days may work, depending on their schedule.
● Care Packages — We'd love for churches to show some love for our Thrivers with small care packages. Do you have a knitting group or shawl ministry that might make them hats or small blankets? Could you provide the occasional basket of baked goods? Would you sponsor a movie night with pizza and popcorn? Just a few ideas to get you started. Contact Amy if you'd like to participate.
